Meet Rachel – The Heart Behind Food Prep Dish

Hi, I’m Rachel Whitaker, and welcome to my little corner of the culinary world at Foodprepdish.com. I’m 38 years old, a proud wife, and the busy mom of three wonderful kids—two energetic boys and a fiercely independent daughter who already insists on stirring the pot (literally) whenever I’m in the kitchen. We live in Austin, Texas, where the flavors are bold, the people are kind, and the kitchens are always full of stories.

Cooking has been my love language for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories are of standing on a step stool beside my grandmother, sneaking tastes of cookie dough and listening to her hum as she worked her magic with simple ingredients. My culinary journey didn’t start with culinary school or a big restaurant gig—it started with family dinners, potlucks, and a deep desire to make every meal feel like home.

Over the years, I’ve experimented with everything from rustic Southern comfort food to Thai curries and gluten-free baking. I’ve burned things, over-salted a stew or two, and once tried to make a soufflé during a toddler tantrum—wouldn’t recommend it. But every little kitchen mishap came with a lesson, and honestly, those flops make the wins taste even sweeter.

Food Prep Dish was born out of necessity and love. With three kids, a full life, and a husband who can eat his weight in enchiladas, I had to find ways to prep smart, cook efficiently, and still bring joy to the table. I wanted to show that delicious, nourishing meals don’t require a culinary degree or endless hours—just a little planning, a lot of heart, and a dash of curiosity.

Some of my favorite dishes to make are lemon herb roasted chicken with root vegetables, spicy shrimp tacos with avocado crema, and a dark chocolate almond flour cake that even my gluten-loving friends ask for. I love drawing inspiration from the vibrant mix of cultures around me—Tex-Mex from my neighbors, Cajun from my roots in Louisiana, and even a bit of Korean flair thanks to a close friend who taught me the magic of gochujang.

Balancing family life with cooking isn’t always easy, but I’ve learned to treat my kitchen as both a sanctuary and a playground. The kids help chop vegetables (under supervision, of course), and we often turn meal prep into dance parties. It’s not about perfection—it’s about connection.

I still remember the time I accidentally used salt instead of sugar in a big batch of muffins for a school bake sale. My kids were the first to try them, and the faces they made were unforgettable. We laughed, tossed the batch, and made a new one together. That moment reminded me why I do this—for the shared laughter, the learning, and the love.
